Iain Postlethwaite vows to finish Nathan Haywood before the third round at Rise and Conquer 13.
RAC 13 will take place this Saturday, October 7th, live at the Rainton Arena in Houghton le Springs. Fans can purchase tickets from the fighters direct and from the promotion’s social media accounts.
Ahead of the barnburner, we had the chance to talk with Iain Postlethwaite to hear his thoughts.
Interview With Iain Postlethwaite
Iain, you’re all set to make the walk again for the second time this year. How nice does it feel to have two fights in the year again and seek some activity?
This is meant to be my 3rd outing this year. 1st was Budo Wales, which the fight got pulled like 30 minutes before the fight. 2nd was on FCC, where I picked up a good win, so to get back to being as active as possible is good for me.
You are no stranger to this game, having competed as a professional in 2012. In that time, the sport has changed massively. What are some of the biggest changes you’ve noticed in the sport since then?
The biggest change I have noticed is the levels of the fighters. I see amateur fighters being on the level of some professional fighters. When I turned pro, I had six amateur fights. Now, the sport has more opportunities for amateurs, where I see fighters having 10+ fights before even thinking of professional.
If you could sum up your professional career in one word, what would that word be?
Entertaining.
Previous Fight
Earlier in the year on FCC, you returned to the win column and finished Christian Tebbett in the second. Having had time to reflect, what’s your assessment of that fight?
It was a big stage, and I feel like I put on a good showing but not the performance that I know I can put on. I watched the fight back, and yeah, I got a good finish against a good opponent, but there are things I know I can do better, so I always get back to the gym and fix my mistakes.
October 7th, you’ll face a tough Nathan Haywood. What challenges do you bring to Nathan that his past opponents haven’t?
I feel like I am a different style from what he is used to, and I know I will cause him a lot of issues; he likes to go for the finish, and so do I, which works for me as I know I’ll be able to make him work and when he makes a mistake that’s when I’ll jump on the finish.
Nathan has a ton of hype built around him. Do you buy into that hype, and do you think it’s warranted?
He is a young and talented fighter with an undefeated pro record, so he will have hype, but I don’t listen to that. I will come in and look to finish him regardless of the hype.
Keys to Victory
What are some keys to victory for you in this fight? What do you need to do to silence the crowd in the Rainton Arena?
I won’t give anything away, but he needs to be ready for a fight. I won’t let him get an easy night. I’m looking to finish the fight every time I make the walk.
Finally, fans love a good old official prediction. Leave us with your prediction if you can.
I finish him before the 3rd round.
