Ian Machado Garry has responded to Colby Covington’s callout through a video of his own on X, saying that he challenges ‘Chaos’ to an ‘I Quit’ match.
Ian Machado Garry’s Video Response to Colby Covington
Garry fired back at Covington, not only for the callout, but also for the unnecessary digs at ‘The Future’s’ wife, Layla.
In a video on X, Garry said: “You gave me three stipulations. All of which have nothing to do with fighting. They were all about my wife. You should be focusing on me. I’m the one who is going to punch a hole in your head.”
After Garry had mocked Covington for losing three times in title fights to Kamaru Usman, twice, and Leon Edwards, the Irishman laid out some rules of his own.
“I challenge you to an ‘I Quit’ match, where one of us has to say, ‘I quit’. And whoever says the words has to retire, gloves off, centre of the octagon – Sayonara, my friend.
“I’m going to be the final chapter in your legacy of failure. I am going to rid the UFC of Colby Covington for good. And I’m going to make MMA great again,” Garry said.
Colby Covington Matchup
For many years, Covington was regarded as the gatekeeper of the welterweight division. A great fighter, but never the best. Since the reign of Leon Edwards began, the 36-year-old started to creep down the rankings and in the eyes of fans, though he still sits fourth in the division.
On the other hand, despite the drama around him and his wife, Garry has been on the rise ever since his UFC debut. Which was actually on the undercard of Kamaru Usman V Colby Covington 2 in November 2021.
Since then, going seven fights unbeaten with notable wins over Geoff Neal and Neil Magny, and now ranked as number seven in the welterweight division, a matchup with ‘Chaos’ looks to be on the horizon.
Being a decade older than Garry, this would more than likely be a do-or-die fight for Covington if he warrants another shot at welterweight gold.
