Ian Garry and Colby Covington continue to feud, raising tensions for a fight to be signed.
The UFC welterweight division continues to be full of exciting moments in and out of the Octagon. In the cage moments such as Leon “Rocky” Edwards‘ “Headshot, Dead!”, or Shavkat “Nomad” Rakhmonov’s impressive finishing streak. While outside the cage, there is one welterweight who has beef with almost every fighter he encounters. Colby “Chaos” Covington wreaks havoc when it comes to getting under fighters skin prior to or after a fight. There are many notable instances to name, more recently popular of what he said to Edwards at the press conference of their last fight.
Covington was explaining the ‘levels of hell’ he was going to take Edwards to in their UFC 296 main event fight. To which he expanded on the subject:
“I’m going to bring you to the 7th layer of hell… We’ll say what’s up to your Dad while we’re there.”
Edwards took this statement with high emotion, as his Father was murdered in a nightclub 2 decades ago. This followed with Edwards throwing a microphone at Covington, and both Edwards and Covington needed to be held back by other UFC workers. So, it is clear that Covington knows one way or another how to try getting in another person’s head.
As of more recently, this has continued with undefeated welterweight upcomer, Ian “Machado” Garry. Garry has quickly gone up the ranks in his respected division and continues to gain traction from other fighters. However, this may be due to more reasons than just fighting. Garry and Covington have been going back and forth for a while online. While Garry wants to fight Covington and get a fight signed, Covington goes a little further than that, mentioning Garry’s Wife in arguments.
Ian Garry Elaborates on Covington Being a Coward
People have learned of Garry’s nickname ‘Machado’ coming from his wife’s ex-husband’s last name. Stating that they decided to use both names when the couple got married in 2022. This had led to fighters ridiculing Garry and accusing his wife of potentially being unfaithful to Garry because she kept her ex-spouse’s last name. One person who took advantage of the knowledge, of course, was none other than Covington. After online videos were shared back and forth between Garry and Covington, Garry believes this is all for entertainment. Which he expands on why Covington won’t fight him:
“He’s trying to avoid me. He doesn’t want to talk about the fight. He’s a man of excuses,” said Garry.
“The truth is, let’s see if he signs the contract. Let’s see if he steps into the octagon, or if he just tries to run, or if he just tries to extend it and make it. In my mind, he’s a coward,” he continued.
Will There Be a Quitter?
Garry states he just wants the fight to happen:
“I’m the one who’s been hounding the UFC. He hasn’t said yes. That’s it. It’s on him. He hasn’t signed no contract.”
In one online video, Garry offered a ‘I quit’ match, being when the fight is booked, the loser will have to quit the UFC.
Garry said: “I’m going to make Colby say I quit. That’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to have him, pounding his face on the canvas.”
This still may be just the beginning for what is to come. Garry has stated he wants the fight to happen, now we just wait for his next fight to be booked.
