Ian Garry Saves the Day at UFC 310
On Saturday, the 15-0 Ian Garry is scheduled to face fellow undefeated prospect Shavkat Rhakmonov in a five-round co-main event in Las Vegas at UFC 310. Garry stepped in to face Shavkat after the current champion, Belal Muhammad. The champion was forced to withdraw from his title fight due to a foot infection.
Garry has famously trained with Shavkat in the past. Very recently, a video of the two sparring has been doing the rounds on social media. This has got fans speculating how Garry will do in this matchup.
Ian Garry Given a Warning by Bisping
Former champion Michael Bisping gave his say on the fight. Where he stated that he has a lot of respect for Garry. During his UFC 310 early thoughts video, Bisping said, “I’ve said this before: you’ve gotta have a lot of respect for Ian Garry. He didn’t have to take this fight, but can he stop the takedown?”
Bisping believes that the takedowns from Shavkat are his key to victory in this fight he further went on to claim, “He’s got to keep Shavkat Rahkmonov off him, okay? If he can’t stop the takedown, he will get finished. And that is no disrespect to Ian Garry.”
Joaquin Buckley Backs His Original Opponent
Garry was originally scheduled to face Joaquin Buckley in the main event at UFC Fight Night: Tampa on Dec 14th. Buckley has been on a tear since moving down to welterweight. He is 5-0 in the weight class, most notably knocking out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 307.
In an interview with Middle Easy, Buckley gave his reasoning for his Garry prediction. “He does a good job of staying safe and surviving.”
He went on to say, “With Shavkat, he waits on guys too much, if you get in the fire with Shavkat Rahkmonov, you’re going to get burned. I don’t see Ian Garry running into that burning house.”
