Ahead of their record-breaking fight at UFC 310, Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov clashed at the ceremonial weigh-ins.
After Belal Muhammad withdrew from his scheduled title defence against Rakhmonov, Ian Garry stepped in on short notice. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the fight as the co-main event, with the winner earning a shot at ‘Remember The Name’ for the title
This matchup will set a new record for the largest combined undefeated record in UFC history, surpassing Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa.
Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov Almost Clash at UFC 310 Weigh-ins After Tensions Flare
Although Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov had trained together in the past, their relationship grew increasingly heated as their fight approached.
Just hours after weighing in for their 170lbs clash, the two faced off at the ceremonial weigh-ins. Tensions had already risen after it was revealed that Takhmonov had submitted Ina Garry during training.
Earlier in the week, Rakhmonov claimed he had submitted the Irishman multiple times, which Garry admitted was true but vowed to “put a hole through his head” on fight night.
As the two went head-to-head at the weigh-ins, Ian Garry reassured Dana White, saying;
We’re not gonna hit each other, we’re good, we’re good.”
However, Rakhmonov started pushing his head against Garry’s prompting a brief altercation before they were separated and sent off stage.
Ian Machado Garry Believes He’s in Shavkat Rakhmonov’s Head Ahead of UFC 310
Inspired by his idol, Conor McGregor, Ian Machado Garry is known for his confident, mind-game tactics before fights. While he usually tries to get inside his opponents’ heads, he kept things respectful with Shavkat Rakhmonov due to their shared history. However, after their final face-off, Garry now believes he has successfully gotten into Rakhmonov’s mind.
In a video on his social media, Garry explained;
“I’m rattling his brain. Shavkat doesn’t usually get this emotional. There’s a different energy now. At first, he brought strong energy, but I said, ‘We’re good, let’s show respect.'”
“Then he started pushing his head against mine. I’m not here to headbutt or fight right now. When he kept pushing, I said, ‘Get the f*ck out of my space, you wanna go now, let’s go.’ I fear no man.”
“I’m in his f*cking noggin. Your 0 goes tomorrow, I remain undefeated. I’m going to finish you.”
