Ian Machado Garry has a bone to pick with the “Wolf”, Khamzat Chimaev. Following his historically dominant performance against welterweight stalwart Neil Magny, Machado Garry has his sights set on a high-profile bout in his home country of Ireland.
The undefeated challenger already has two huge wins over Magny and Daniel Rodriguez, reeling off six in a row in the Octagon. Last Saturday’s win vaulted him to number eleven in the welterweight rankings.
Machado Garry has also called out Stephen Thompson, as he states that he wants to beat the best striker in the division. According to some, a seventh straight UFC win would earn him a main event in his native country of Ireland.
Ian Machado Garry Lays out Plan for Return to Dublin
Much like the rest of the 170-pound division, Machado Garry has called out rising Russian Khamzat Chimaev to square off in a main event in Dublin.
“It would have to be in the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland as my dream venue because they’re [the UFC] never going to go to Croke Park,” Ian Machado Garry told Sporting Post during a recent interview. “And the gream opponent would be me versus Khamzat Chimaev, because everyone talks about him like he’s this badman and this boogeyman, but in the time I’m going to get a chance to lay hands on him – if he’s the baddest man that everyone is afraid of, I’m going to show the world what’s up.”
Interestingly, Dublin’s Croke Park holds 82,000 spectators, but is outdoor, and thus the UFC would likely not be able to hold an event there. The stadium sees Gaelic games, and rarely, if ever, soccer.
“He’d be my dream opponent in Ireland,” Ian Machado Garry explained. “I want that f*cking wolf- I want that badman. I want to be baddest man on earth, and everyone considers it to be him at the moment, but let me punch the mouth off him and we’ll see what’s up.”
However, as of now, Chimaev faces number four-ranked middleweight Paulo Costa in October. This fight marks Chimaev’s return to the middleweight division against a former title challenger in Paulo Costa.
