Rising welterweight star Ian Machado Garry has recently shared his excitement about the comeback of Conor McGregor, often hailed as the original phenom of the UFC. Garry’s remarks come following a sparring session with McGregor in Ireland, as the latter prepares for his much-anticipated return to the UFC next year. McGregor is set to face former lightweight title contender Michael Chandler in a comeback fight.
Currently holding the tenth spot in the welterweight rankings, Machado Garry is gearing up for a significant bout against Vicente Luque at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, a fight that promises to be a main card highlight.
Conor McGregor, who has been out of action since July 2021 due to a severe leg injury suffered in his match against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, is expected to make his Octagon return next year. The potential comeback, rumoured for UFC 300 in April or during the summer, will see him compete at the welterweight level against Chandler.
Ian Machado Garry Praises Conor McGregor’s Skills and Impact
During a recent training session, Machado Garry witnessed firsthand the skills and flair that have made McGregor a UFC legend. “In our MMA sparring session, there was a moment where Conor reverted to his ‘original’ style,” Garry recounted in an interview with Energized. “He adopted that signature stance, and I could see the old Conor coming through. It was like a throwback to his earlier fighting days. I had to remind myself of what was coming next, having watched him so many times before.”
Garry continued, expressing his admiration for McGregor’s prowess. “It was incredibly exciting as a fan to spar with someone who I believe is the best to ever do it in MMA. Feeling his striking firsthand was an amazing experience,” he added, reflecting on the session with enthusiasm and respect for McGregor’s legacy in the sport. [Courtesy of MMA News]
