Ian Machado Garry overcomes an early knockdown to dominate on the feet before securing a third-round finish at UFC 285.
Round 1
Neither man rushes the action remaining patient and at distance trading leg kicks. Garry is the more active fighter halfway through the first but both remain content waiting for an opening. The Ian Machado Garry calf kicks are landing hard, and frequently.
As Garry seems to be in control before Kenan Song lands a flush left hook and drops Ian to the mat. He swarms the Irishman and begins to rain down blows. Garry survives and makes it to the second round.
Round 2
Round two starts in a similar fashion to the first. An unintentional foul halts the action temporarily. Garry remains persistent with the kicks which are landing well. He has recovered well from the knockdown and seems to be fully present.
Song hasn’t looked to press the action rendering the counter-striking prowess of Ian useless thus far. Ian swarms Kenan in an attempt to open the fight up. Despite the knockdown, Machado Garry is controlling the tempo of the action, while landing more and better strikes. Ian’s jab and calf kick are the story of the fight.
Round 3
Entering round three Song Kenan is wearing damage on his face and calf. After pumping up the crowd it’s clear Garry is feeling it now as the third commences. Although Song is still dangerous it’s too little too often.
The jab for Ian acts as a catalyst for the rest of his offence and right now it can’t miss. Mixing things up, attacking all three levels, Kenan’s struggling to adjust to the strikes and react accordingly,
A huge flurry and slick combination hurt Kenan. As soon as Ian smells blood he floods Song ending the fight.
The TKO stoppage came at 4:22 of round three.
What’s Next?
Ian Machado Garry remains undefeated and scores his seventh finish despite suffering a first-round knockdown. The future by name, the future by nature Ian Garry picks up another victory to move to 11-0. Making it four from four in the UFC.
Now fully established as a UFC fighter, a step up in competition could be what Garry needs next to move to the next level. Proving he has what it takes to compete in the UFC, the best step is proving he’s of the level capable of pushing up the rankings.
Unranked as of now, and a few fights away from a top 15 spot. It would be ideal for Ian to take on a UFC veteran who has tasted the higher ranks in the sport. Nicholas Dalby, Tim Means and Niko Price are all excellent options that offer differing challenges.
Although one of these names might not come to fruition, someone in a similar position who has a wealth of octagon experience would provide an excellent challenge.
