Ieuan Mackenzie beats Raged UK featherweight champion in the first round after promising “the most aggressive version of me yet”.
In arguably the most anticipated match-up of the UK amateur MMA scene, Mackenzie faced off against Ruslan Vrabije for the Raged UK featherweight title. With both fighters coming with hot winning streaks- it made for a very exciting fight! Mackenzie headlined the amateur card, hoping to capture the gold from reigning champ Ruslan Vrabjie.
Becoming the New Champion
The much-anticipated fight took place in Swindon and ended just 2 minutes and 59 seconds into the first round, with Mackenzie securing a rear naked choke. This win from Mackenzie has likely propelled him into the number 1 spot in UK amateur MMA. This brings his record up to 9 wins and three losses, with 5 of those wins being finishes.
Ieuan now holds three belts in two weight divisions. He is the current Cage Warriors Academy Wales featherweight champion, Meltdown FC lightweight champion, and the new Raged UK featherweight champion. As such a decorated amateur fighter, what comes next for Ieuan Mackenzie?
What’s Next for Ieuan Mackenzie?
Ieuan stated in a recent interview that he plans on competing at the IMAFF Europeans at the end of September. Mackenzie said the following “If all goes to plan, I will hold three belts on the UK regional scene and be European champion, so what else will there be for me to prove?”. Mackenzie seems to be fully focused on conquering the amateur MMA scene as turning pro is not something yet in his sights. He stated that “I will need to have a sit down with my coaches and discuss when the time comes”.
Mackenzie recently took to social media to celebrate the win. He thanked his team, sponsors and supporters for “pushing him on the daily”.
