Ignacio Bahamondes outpoints Trey Ogden with brilliant range control using kicks to secure UFC 287 victory.
Before the Fight
Ignacio Bahamondes
Returning to action in a Catchweight bout. Chile’s dynamic striker Bahamondes looks to maintain the form that saw him earn the prospect moniker. 13-4 at just 25 years old, his in-ring work speaks for itself.
Only three fights into his UFC career, he put his debut loss to John Makdessi behind him with a pair of wins. 4-1 in his last five, no performance was more impressive than his victory over Roosevelt Roberts. Taking the victory with a stunning spinning hook kick knockout.
Trey Ogden
Stepping up to compete on UFC 287 after his bout a few weeks ago fell through. Ogden will be looking to make the most of this opportunity by competing on a PPV card. 16-5 As a pro, he shows plenty of skill with a well-rounded style.
Young in his UFC career Ogden will make his third appearance when the cage door closes behind him. 1-1 in his previous two, his form sees him win four from his last five. The last time out for Trey was a convincing decision over the undefeated Daniel Zellhuber.
The Fight
Round 1
A feeling-out process dominates the first minute as both throw feints and leg kicks. Bahamondes looks to use his range and lands a good punch to the body. Ogden keeps his movement frequent to keep the Chilean’s length at bay. Ignacio’s leg kicks start to show wear on the calf of Ogden.
Entering the final two minutes the output from Bahamondes picks up as he backs Trey up. Ogden is resigned to only attempting to throw counterstrikes as he can’t get around the stance-switching of Bahamondes. The round ends with each man landing a low kick.
Round 2
After the success of round one, Bahamondes adopts the same approach to the second. Low kicks and punches land frequently for Ignacio. Every time Ogden looks to impose his will, a sharp stance switch halts his forward motion.
The Bahamondes game plan seems set as we enter the final minute. Trey has pushed the action more this round and landed several nice shots, but not enough to swing the tide. Round two ends with Bahamondes landing kicks as he remains in control.
Round 3
Ignacio wants this fight the same and looks to keep it that way. Ogden looks to impose more offence but he’s still struggling with the 6’3” frame of his opponent. Mixing the kicks to the legs and body, Trey is struggling with the artillery coming his way.
Not much changes through the final minutes. It’s a case of not enough output from Ogden which allows Bahamondes to fight the fight he wants.
