Ikram Aliskerov was devastatingly finished at UFC Fight Night Saudi Arabia by Robert Whittaker this past Saturday. Despite being knocked out in the first round, the Russian took to social media claiming he ‘doesn’t regret anything’.
Ikram Aliskerov Reflects on Knockout Loss to Robert Whittaker
Filling in with just a week’s notice, the rising middleweight prospect replaced Khamzat Chimaev in the main event at The Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. After “Borz” fell ill, Aliskerov was quick to accept. As the fight unfolded, it was clear that he was thrown to the deep end in just his third UFC appearance.
The number three-ranked middleweight, Whittaker, dispatched his opponent professionally with a flurry of accurate and well-timed shots. Not long after, Aliskerov took to X and Instagram to let MMA fans know he will bounce back.
Aliskerov said on X: “Alhamdulilla, no excuses. I don’t regret anything. It was a big experience against one of the best in the sport. I’m young, I’ll work on my mistakes, learn and get back into business soon. Thanks to everyone for support messages.”
What Next For Aliskerov?
It was always going to be a tough task to overcome a 12-year UFC veteran and further reinforces that other surging stars should not rush for big fights.
However, the matchup certainly proved the 31-year-old’s determination and courage. He saw the opportunity and took it, albeit coming up short on the night.
The most important thing for Aliskerov is to get the hype train back on the tracks. Being such a deadly finish by “The Reaper”, a couple of months off for the unranked middleweight would not hurt.
When he returns, a few tune-up fights would be highly beneficial before facing another ranked opponent. Securing two first-round knockouts in his first two UFC fights is nothing short of impressive. Remaining as one of the most exciting middleweights under Dana White and Hunter Campbell’s guidance. Aliskerov will surely get back to winning ways in no time.
