The Metrodome in Barnsley had the pleasure of hosting a sold-out crowd for Almighty Fighting Championship 23, which took place on February 19th.
Fighters from across the country made their way to the Metrodome in the hope of stealing those new bonuses that promoter Ray Thompson has implemented into the promotion.
We had the pleasure of catching up post-fight with one man in action in Leon Armes. Unfortunately, Armes suffered a unanimous decision loss on the night but still feels there were a handful of positives to take away from the contest with Benny Baldini.
Check out what Leon Armes had to say below.
Interview With Leon Armes
You were nearly able to get him out of there in the first round. Did he make any adjustments once he was rocked that changed your strategy?
He came out in the second round with more pressure and more of a heavy grapple approach. This made getting my strikes off harder. My strategy remained the same, but I should have made more adjustments looking back.
So far, in both your fights, you have shown skills above what your record suggests. Where would you say you are in terms of skill right now?
In terms of my skills right now, I think I possess many good traits but still have a lot to do to learn to get where I want to be.
How long of a break are you looking to take before you get back into the cage?
I want to get back in there as soon as my hand is healed up. I injured it in the first round and now have to rehab it before getting back inside the cage. Hopefully, it won’t be too long.
The atmosphere at the Metrodome was loud. How does having a crowd behind you help you in fights?
The atmosphere was great, especially with the people that came to support me. I can’t thank them enough.
The featherweight division is filled with talent. What do you think you possess skill-wise that can take you to the top?
I think my striking, wrestling and the way I know I can mix it together will pose many problems for everyone in the division.
