Mick Stanton is faced with his biggest test to date ahead of his clash with Darren Stewart at Cage Warriors 141.
Cage Warriors 141 will go down in London, England, on July 22nd at the Indigo in the O2 Arena. Fight night will be the promotion’s second trip to the Indigo this year and the second time the organisation will play as a warm-up before UFC London the following evening.
Stanton is ageing like fine wine, and his recent performances are a testament to that. The 35-year-old is currently riding a two-fight win streak, stopping both George Smith and Alexis Fontes.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Mick Stanton ahead of fight night to get this thoughts on the task that presents itself in conquering former UFC vet Darren Stewart.
Interview With Mick Stanton
A few weeks out, Mick, another big test on a huge stage, with eyeballs from all over the globe on the card. How do you feel as we close out fight camp?
I’m feeling great going into my final two weeks of camp. All gone perfect. It’s the hardest I’ve ever worked, and I look forward to testing my skills against a top fighter, Darren Stewart.
Last time out, you made it two on the bounce, with two stoppage victories. For those who may have doubted you. How sweet did victory feel at Cage Warriors 136 in Manchester? Were you satisfied with your overall performance?
It always feels good to get a win but even better that I’ve got so much more to show. I’ve levelled up massively since last time out, and I can’t wait to showcase them on July 22nd.
Mick Stanton on Facing Darren Stewart
On July 22nd in the Indigo in London, you’ll face Darren Stewart. Is it fair to say this is your toughest test to date? What do you think of Darren as a fellow competitor? This fight just screams war for us at home and those in attendance.
Darren Stewart is a great test for me. I’m ready for the step up in level and looking forward to it. Darren is on a skid, but that means nothing to me. I’m expecting the best Darren Stewart to date, and I’m well prepared for it. I’m better than him in all areas, and ill showcase that in great fashion.
You defeat Darren Stewart in London, a notable well-respected name. What’s next for Mick Stanton? What goals do you have left for yourself within Cage Warriors? As in your last few performances, you’ve showcased the machine is well oiled and still performing among the best?
I joined Cage Warriors with 1 goal in mind, and that was to be a world champion, and I have one fight left after this with the organisation so let’s see what happens after I beat Stewart. I love the game, but I need to start getting paid well to fight now. I’ve been fighting for over 20 years now I’ve just got to go out there and show the world I’m up there with the best.
Bout Expectations
Sell it to us, why should everyone stay seated during Mick Stanton and Darren Stewart? What can we expect from this contest?
You can expect a war with Darren and Me. Everyone knows what to expect from me. I’m going to push the pace and watch him crumble. He can’t keep up with my pace. I’m the cardio King.
Lastly, can we get an official fight prediction?
A third-round finish for the Huyton Hammer.
