The Professional Fighters League are here and the organisation has hit the United Kingdom as they make London their home for the night on Aug.20.
One man who looks to make the Copper Box Arena in London his home for the evening is (4-1) welterweight fighter, Tayo Odunjo. Odunjo began his professional career in 2018 and instantly showcased his potential with a well-rounded skill-set. The English-born is relishing the opportunity of displaying his skills on a major stage on Aug.20.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Tayo Odunjo before the biggest fight of his life in order to give the audience a better understanding of him as a not only a fighter, but a person.
Get to Know Tayo Odunjo
How would you describe your style of fighting to those who don’t know and have never watched you fight before? Is there anybody at the top of the sport you would compare your fight style to?
My style is basically predicated on flow and rhythm.
Hoe did Tayo Odunjo find MMA? What made you take the decision to look for a gym and step through those doors?
I liked football and sports in general. I decided to try out kickboxing in a youth club, and that is where it all started.
Obviously, you’ve got an opportunity to showcase your skill-set on a huge stage like PFL. With that being said, what are your goals within the sport?
To be the king of my division.
What do you feel you offer the PFL that they haven’t seen before?
I have no idea, but I will be trying to finish everyone I step in with.
Tayo Odunjo Talks Hobbies
Outside of fighting, what does Tayo Odunjo like to do? Do you have any interesting hobbies you do when not training?
Tayo likes to eat good food and travel.
What do you like to do to relax when not training and in-between sessions?
I just relax in my bed and drink mango smoothies.
What is your general approach to preparing for a fight and structuring a camp? Are your camps based around your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, or are your camp the same fight by fight?
I am still at the embryonic stages of my career, so my focus is to improve in all areas.
Who are some of your favourite fighters to watch in the sport, and why?
Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Roy Jones Jr. they all manage distance.
Favorite Discipline in MMA
What is your favourite discipline of MMA, and why?
Wrestling – it is a grind, its tough and it pushes you like no other discipline.
Five years from now, where do you see yourself?
At the top of my division.
What does it mean to you to be competing on a global stage like PFL, and can you sum up how you felt when presented the opportunity?
It is a big opportunity to make a statement. I feel like it is the start of my rise.
