Rising Welsh amateur Ioan Harris will look to pick up his first MMA title this weekend. He takes on Alex Gill for the Cage Warriors Academy Wales welterweight title, and he is not feeling any pressure.
Jiu-Jitsu
With an exciting record of 5-1, Harris is one of the hottest prospects on the scene. A grappling/jiu-jitsu heavy fighter who carries a mean punch. “Jiu-jitsu is my strength. I don’t think that’s any secret. I enjoy learning about the mechanics of fighting”.
Fighting out of Two4 Gym, along with CF24 Jiu-Jitsu Gym, Harris believes in time people will see both gyms as some of the best in the country.
Road to the Title
The Welshman has managed to finish all but one of his five victories. His most recent coming in March is in the same place he’s hoping to win his first title.
An arm-triangle choke against Jordan Little at Cage Warriors Academy Wales 6 set him up for his shot at gold. “To me, it’s just another fight. I want to test my skill set against his and see who’s better.”
Ioan Harris v Alex Gill
His opponent comes into this fight as the reigning Golden Ticket lightweight champion and holds an experienced amateur record of 10-2. “I know he’s a decent grappler and well up for the high-pace exchanges”, states Harris.
The fight is set up to be an all-out war with both guys having the tools to finish it. “A finish would be great, but I go in there expecting nine minutes. Anything else is just a bonus!”
