Chris Eubank Jr is already looking ahead to a potential clash with Canelo Alvarez, but he has to get past Conor Benn first.
After years of waiting, we will finally get the grudge match between Chris Eubank JR and Conor Benn on April 26th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the two have already gone back and forth throughout the years to the recent press conferences, they finally can settle the score.
Eubank Can’t Afford to Lose if He Wants to Make the Step Up-
The rivalry with Benn runs through the family, thanks to both fathers being two of the great British fighters in the 90’s with Eubank getting the better over Benn back then. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani he made it clear that he wants to fight the biggest name in Boxing, Canelo Alvarez.
“I do think that is the next logical fight” he said. “Turki [Alalshikh] is saying this could put me in position to get in the ring with Canelo, which would be amazing. “ Alalshikh already had a big part to play in the makings of the card in April, with the big collaboration with Ring Magazine and a new boxing game ‘Fatal Fury’.
Canelo has already won two fights in 2024 with one against Jaime Mungaia and Edgar Berlanga, with him putting WBC AND WBO super middleweight titles against William Scull in Riyadh on May 5th, the Mexican has business to deal with first before a potential Eubank fight.
“In the UK, it’s probably bigger than a Canelo fight” he said. “People who don’t even follow boxing know about this fight. It’s on another level here”.
With the fight on the verge of selling out, it’s simply a must win for both men if they are going to progress to the world stage, so Eubank has emphasised he’s looking past Benn “The fight has to happen first, then we talk about Canelo but the idea’s already in motion”.
With Eubank at the latter stages in his career at 35 if he does succeed on April 26th then he can finally make those world title fights.
