Isaac Chamberlain Dominates Mikael Lawal
It was a cagey opening from both fighters, with the high-pressure stakes clear to see between the two rivals. Chamberlain took the first two rounds by virtue of being the busier fighter.
The fight got quicker towards the end of the third round, Chamberlain looking to pressure his opponent catching him with some good hooks to the head and body. It appeared that Lawal was looking to maintain his stamina for later rounds giving up the earlier part of the fight.
Lawal had his first bit of success at the end of the fourth round catching Chamberlain with a heavy overhand right on the counter. It wasn’t enough though with him losing the first five rounds.
Lawal tried to put pressure on his opponent but was punished with a counter left that unsteadied his legs. Chamberlain ended the round with more clean shots leading to him picking up the first six rounds.
Chamberlain continued to dominate picking up the next two rounds. Lawal did manage one good counter shot in the eighth round but not clean enough to worry Chamberlain.
Lawal needed a finish going in to the later rounds to regain his title, he picked up in the tenth round but didn’t seem to have the answer’s to beat his rival. Chamberlain did inform his corner he felt he had torn his right bicep in the round.
Despite the apparent injury Chamberlain continued to be busy with his jab and stay out of range of the powerful punches thrown by Lawal, even managing to duck out of the way of the final punch thrown in the 11th round before dancing in his corner.
Chamberlain spent the final round keeping out of distance and celebrated at the final bell as he picked up a comfortable victory.
