Islam Makhachev is coming off a sensational knockout victory over Alexander Volkanovski this past Saturday at UFC 294.
The fighter from Dagestan looked incredible as he made short work of his rival. Charles Oliveira seems to be next in line to face a dominant champion. However, current BMF champion Justin Gaethje believes he should have the next crack at the title.
The Highlight Reel Justin Gaethje
Gaethje is an incredible talent inside the octagon and lives up to his nickname of the ‘Highlight Reel’. He has been a top contender in the lightweight division for many years and looks to get a title shot in the future.
The American is coming off a win against Dustin Poirier, where he caught him with a sensational high kick. Gaethje puts on incredible contests, which is very exciting to watch. He will be a great contender for Makhachev to take on.
The BMF Champ Calls For Fight With Islam Makhachev
As stated, Gaethje deserves a title opportunity, his third in the UFC. He has faced Makhachev’s long-time friend, Khabib Nurmagomedov. In an interview, Gaethje explained why he thinks he should be next in line for a championship fight and the comparisons between Makhachev and Nurmagomedov.
“I think it should absolutely (be me). I mean, I’m number two, I knocked out Poirier,” Gaethje said. “Charles Oliveira is ahead of me, but he already lost to Makhachev. I have not fought Makhachev. It’s a fresh matchup, a new matchup, and I think that’s what the fans are looking for.
“I think he (Makhachev) would have dominated Oliveira just the same. Oliveira beat me, (but) MMA math doesn’t work,” Gaethje continued. “I’ve said he’s not Khabib, but I think he might be, so I just wanna go out there and figure it out.”
