Israel Adesanya the current undisputed UFC middleweight champ has called on Dricus Du Plessis to beat Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in July.
In his most recent “special update” Dana White cleared up the middleweight title picture by confirming the winner of the fight between Whittaker and Du Plessis would fight Adesanya later in the year in Australia.
After his epic knockout victory over Alex Pereira Israel Adesanya seemed to confirm his desire to fight Du Plessis by saying “I will gladly drag his carcass across Africa”.
Du Plessis is on a 5 fight-unbeaten UFC run with victories over Darren Till, Brad Tavares and most recently in an impressive 2nd-round stoppage of #8 ranked middleweight Derek Brunson.
Israel Adesanya Pleads with Dricus Du Plessis to Win
Adesanya has beaten Du Plessis UFC 290 opponent Robert Whittaker twice already, and with him beating everyone else ahead of Dricus in the rankings he’s hungry for a fresh contender to rise above the rest and challenge him.
Adesanya responded: “Please win” to a Twitter post from Du Plessis.
Whittaker on the other hand is once again building his way back to a title shot after he lost the last by unanimous decision to Adesanya at UFC 271 in December 2012. “The Reaper” put on a clinic against Marvin Vettori in Paris last year and he hopes a win over Du Plessis will grant him a third fight against Israel.
Worth noting as well that Dana White also announced a middleweight main event between Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier which could also have title implications.
Who would you like to see challenge Adesanya next? Does Dricus pick up the win against Whittaker? Let us know in the comments.
