One of the greatest champions in UFC history, Israel Adesanya took aim at Bradley Martyn for his audacious call outs of fighters.
Since his disappointing defeat to Sean Strickland, Adesanya has taken some time out of the cage to enjoy the fruits of his illustrious career. He recently featured on fellow former UFC champion and MMA great Demetrious Johnson’s podcast, MightyCast. One of the first topics raised was around a recent open weight BJJ competition that Johnson competed in where he submitted Mike Medina, a man nearly 100lbs heavier than himself. This moved into speaking about Bradley Martyn a well known bodybuilder that has spoken to many professional fighters and on many occasions has insinuated he’d be able to handle himself in fight against them. The likes of Devin Haney, Nate Diaz and Sean O’Malley for example.
Israel Adesanya Harsh Critique on Bradley Martyn
Former Flyweight champion Johnson has openly admitted to agreeing to fly out to meet Martyn and contest with him out in LA.
“I look at Bradley Martyn as a gentleman who is looking for clout, and he’s saying these things right, and for me, I’ve been about that life. I just proved that I am about that life, For free.” stated Johnson, in relation to his win against Medina.
Adesanya followed up with a story about when both him and Martyn attended an afterparty from a Jake Paul fight.
“Meet Jake Paul at the hotel and he invites me to his house. I get there …… At one point, there’s a ring in the backyard. And I got word that ‘Oh, this guy’s trying to get Izzy in the ring.’ I was like, ‘Nah, I ain’t doing any of that. I’m here to have fun,’ and it was [Bradley Martyn]. I don’t know the guy, but anytime I see him with a fighter, he tries to like, ‘Oh, how would I…’ Stop that. For me, personally, some people aren’t even man enough to wash the jocks we fight in. They’re not man enough or worthy enough to step in a ring or a cage with us.” Quotes via LowKickMMA.
Many agree with the sentiment that if you are fighting a trained individual size does not provide any kind of significant advantage in the streets. However, Martyn did respond to the comments on X.
Adesanya Returning at UFC 305?
Fans have questioned the return date for Adesanya ever since he stated he’d take some time away from the octagon. With UFC 300 now in the books as one of the greatest ever UFC cards. Adesanya may have missed his chance for a seismic return, however rumours have it that Dricus Du Plessis is the reason the middleweight belt was not contested at 300. Now all eyes turn to Perth Australia for UFC 305 in August. Both men have teased the bout for that event. If it materialised it would mark almost a year removed from competition for the Nigerian. Making it the longest stretch of inactivity in his UFC tenure. How that would effect him only he and his coaches will know.
