Alex Pereira knocked out former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill with a brutal left hook on Saturday night at UFC 300, but his nemesis Israel Adesanya, who was sat cage side didn’t seem too impressed.
Pereira has become a UFC legend in a short amount of time and one piece to that puzzle was his outrageous KO of Jamahal Hill. The Brazilian barely took a single punch and waived off a potential timeout after an eye poke to destroy Hill with his patterned left hook.
After the KO, the broadcast showed a star studded lineup of fighters react to Poatan’s power punch. This included bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall and former champion Kamara Usman. Most prominently shown was his long time rival Israel Adesanya who gave a fairly subdued reaction to the star moment.
Israel Adesanya Reacts to Alex Pereira’s KO of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300
Adesanya sat down with a blank almost emotionless face.
The two previous opponents have a storied past which has included a rivalry in kick-boxing and MMA. Despite Pereira calling out Adesanya after winning the belt, a trilogy UFC bout doesn’t seem likely with the latter taking some well deserved rest out of the octagon.
One man who Pereira does have his sights on is interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall who was eluded to in Poatan’s post fight speech. He mentioned the move up to heavyweight to potentially become the first three weight world champion in UFC history.
The fight was rumoured to be the headline to UFC 300 but it was turned down by Aspinall who is desperately trying to get the fight with UFC legend Jon Jones. Pereira also mentioned defending the 205 pound title with Magomed Ankalaev an option that the Brazilian finds exciting. Jiří Procházka also had a key win as he demolished Alexander Rakic for a performance of the night bonus.
