Israel Adesanya is seemingly set to make his octagon return against Dricus du Plessis in the coming months, and “Stylebender” gave a stern warning to the middleweight division that he is “coming for heads”.
Israel Adesanya Set to Return Against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305
Currently on a nine-month hiatus outside of the cage, it has been heavily rumoured that Adesanya will make his next MMA appearance on August 18th at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia.
While he prepares to challenge Du Plessis for the middleweight championship, the New Zealand native revealed a shift in mindset as fans welcome his long-awaited comeback.
In his latest YouTube video on the FREESTYLEBENDER channel, he said: “How excited am I to get back in the octagon? I’m excited, I’m excited. It’s been a year, almost a year, like 11 months by the time I get back in the octagon, but um. People are always like ‘Oh I hope you get the belt back, I hope you get the belt back’. Like, I have belts. I don’t need any more belts. I’m coming for heads. That’s what I wanna do.”
Although he provided no names, Adesanya continued: “There’s just a few, that I have to touch, to take. I’m excited to come back, but everything comes at its own time. So right now it’s just time for training and chilling, working, relaxing, healing. And then when it’s time. Time for killing.”
Heads That Stylebender Will Be Scoping
The former middleweight champion lost the belt in his last fight at UFC 293 to severe underdog, Sean Strickland. There is no doubt that he will be looking for that rematch, not only for the loss but also the choice of words that Strickland had for Adesanya during their pre-fight press conference.
Another obvious opponent, and likely to be his next, is Du Plessis. Although it has quietened down, their African feud will likely continue throughout the build-up of their rumoured fight.
Adesanya suffered in Sydney to Strickland, but can he regain the title that was once his on the west coast of Australia?
