Today’s Anthony Pettis FC 8: Manchester Fight Night event featured a bantamweight clash between Jack Axworthy and Alex Budoiu.
After the recent success stateside, APFC has decided to go global, starting with tonight’s showdown in the BEC Arena in Manchester, England. Fighters from the UK, Ireland and further afield made the walk to develop their skills, progress through their career, and impress the boss in attendance.
The card is headlined by UK prospect Louis Lee Scott, who faces off with Edgar Pigmeu. The co-headliner sees the return of James Williams as he meets Karvann Ahmadi. As for the rest of the card, those attending and watching live via YouTube can enjoy watching 34 more of the region’s most talented amateurs and professionals.
Jack Axworthy Stops Alex Budoiu
One major talking point on the card was the professional debut of Jack Axworthy. The young prospect enters the bout with the attitude that will see him go far as long as the fighting can back up the talk. So far, so good for the Englishman who progressed through his amateur career with an undefeated record of (9-0) and attained multiple regional titles in the process.
In 2023, the bantamweight prospect closed out his amateur career with two wins over Cory O’Donovan and Mattia Giordano.
Meanwhile, Alex Budoiu came into the fight with sixth straight losses and hasn’t competed since March 2022. After a 7-16 amateur resume, Budoiu made his professional debut in his most recent outing last year and was submitted by Carl McNally in the first round.
The opening round Jack Axworthy looked as calm as always, throwing many feints and downloading data from Budoiu. Within a minute, Axworthy sent Budoi crashing to the canvas after catching his kick and landing a straight right. The remainder of the round took place on the canvas with Axworthy controlling the action.
In the second, it took Axworthy seconds to get his opponent out of the cage after landing a front kick flush to the face, followed by a wheel kick which put Budoi out.
Official result: Jack Axworthy def. Alex Budoiu by KO in R2 (00:14 )
