Jack Cochran will make the first walk of his 2024 campaign at Unity Fighting Championship 24 on February 17, and the amateur fighter has redemption on his mind.
Unity’s latest instalment will take place at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington, England, and fans can expect some enticing clashes. The promotion continue to improve per shows in every department from production, to hosting and most importantly, matchmaking.
Cochran enters the fight with a (1-1) record. He began his amateur career with a convincing unanimous decision win over Joe Prior in 2022. Unfortunately, Cochran’s momentum was put to a stop in his most recent outing, where he fell short to AJ Hall on Yorkshire MMA Championships
Ready to right the wrong, Jack Cochran will take on Fu Dog MMA’s Kieran Halliday, who has his own point to prove after dropping his last two bouts. Prior to fight night, we had the chance to chat with Jack Cochran to see how he’s feeling ahead of battle.
Jack Cochran Ready to Showcase Improvements at Unity FC
Back to work in a new year after an up-and-down first year of competition. How have things been, and how would you sum up your first year?
I’d sum up this year as I’ve had some highs and lows, but it’s a part of the game. It’s about how you improve and overcome it; after winning my debut on four weeks’ notice and then tasting defeat against a quality opponent, I’m looking to start 2024 off with a win.
In May, you debuted and got off the mark, and then that was followed up by your first defeat at Yorkshire Fighting Championships. How did you handle facing your first defeat, and what went wrong?
No one enjoys losing in any sport, but I fought on Saturday and was back in the gym on Monday working on what went wrong, and I’ve improved massively amounts since my defeat.
The Experience
Having made the walk twice and experienced the whole process of preparing and competing, how well-equipped do you feel you’ll be this time around to manage the nerves and everything that comes with it?
I’ve experienced the nerves and everything twice now; I feel like the environment I’m in at Carlson Gracie Hull helps a lot as I’m constantly training with high-level people, which will only help me improve and be more confident in my ability.
What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned from your first two outings?
The biggest lessons I’ve learned are to stay calm and be patient.
Saturday night, you’ll face Kieran Halliday from Scotland. Give me your thoughts on this fight and how you like your chances of returning to the win column.
He seems like a game lad. We’ve both got a victory over the same person, and it should be a good fight. I’m confident I’ll be bringing the win back to Hull.
I bet your last outing has left a distasteful taste in your mouth. What can the fans expect from you on Feb. 17 at the Unity Fighting Championship?
Expect an entertaining fight; I’m excited to be returning to the Unity fighting championships for the second time and get myself back into the win column.
