Jack Eglin is no stranger to fighting in enemy territory, and the idea of facing Rory Evans in his backyard at Cage Warriors 156 leaves him unfazed.
Cage Warriors 156 takes place this Saturday, July 1, at the Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff, Wales. Matthew Bonner and Darren Stewart collide in the main event, while Reece McEwan and Leonardo de Oliveira take the penultimate scrap of the night.
Eglin enters the cage high on confidence after snapping his two-fight skid in his most recent outing at Cage Warriors 150, where he stopped Illie Meryacre in the first round.
The bantamweight prospect is fully aware he won’t be welcomed with open arms behind enemy lines in Cardiff, but having experienced it all before, he feels he’s well-equipped to perform in a hostile environment:
“I’ve been in enemy territory before, and in reality, who’s there and what’s there don’t matter!! It’s me, him and the ref in there. All I can focus on is what’s in front of me and what I can control. That’s it!!“
Eglin’s opponent, Rory Evans, who trains out of Shore Mixed Martial Arts, comes into the fight (5-4) and is currently coming off his first loss since 2019. Prior to that, Evans had accumulated four-straight wins over tough competition in Jason Jenkins, Brad Evans, Jimmy Fell, and Weslley Maia. Despite giving the Welshman his props, Eglin thinks he’s the more skilled out of the two:
“My initial thoughts on him where he’s a good opponent someone who’s been around the game a bit and is tough, but a very good match up for me and that I know I’m better and more skilled then him.“
Eglin Talks Recent Win
After suffering two-back-to-back losses to Luke Riley and Sam Kelly, Eglin found himself back in the win column, in a win he labels as the most important of his professional career thus far:
“It was a big moment for me and my team!! And it was the most important victory I’ve had. I had something to prove, like I do in every fight, that I’m the best, and I feel that I showed it on that night!! And showed that I belong at the top of this division.“
When asked for his view on Evan’s Cage Warriors career so far, Eglin kept it short and sweet:
“If I’m honest, I don’t have a view on his time under the promotion. It makes no difference to me.”
Eglin’s track record certainly speaks for itself. All five of his professional fights have yet to go the distance. Saturday night, when the cage door closes on him and Evans, expect nothing different:
“Like I always say, I’m in there to kill or be killed every time, and I never want to leave it in their hands!! But I’ll be ready for non-stop bell-to-bell three rounds if they come. But I feel that he will leave an opening, and I will find it.“
