Jack Foote is entering his Goliath Fight Series 4 battle filled with confidence, predicting a third-round stoppage win over Stephen McBride.
Foote holds a (2-2) recorded coming into the fight and will be making the walk for the third time this year. In March earlier this year, he was able to take it out Seth Milne in the third round at Budo FC 56, and last month dropped a first submission to Shane Dunne.
Looking to right the wrong, Jack Foote is coming into his Goliath clash with a point to prove and feel’s Stephen McBride is the perfect dance partner to do so.
We had the opportunity of catching up with Jack Foote ahead of battle. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Jack Foote
You’ve been incredibly busy thus far in 2023. Was the plan to always try and seek activity and get rounds and fights under your belt?
Yeah, my goal this year is to be as active as possible after just recovering from a bad injury at the end of last year. When the body is uninjured, you need to make the most of the opportunities presented.
That said, so far, you sit at (1-1). How would you sum up your year in competition as we head into the Summer?
I have had 2 MMA fights this year but have kept very busy with grappling in between, making sure that I’m competing every month. I have a nice collection of medals already this year and only plan to keep adding them up, as well as winning fights.
After beating Seth Milne earlier in the year, you dropped a fight to Shane Dunne early into the fight at Budo FC. Having had time to reflect back on that fight, you must be frustrated in being unable to give an accurate representation of yourself. Would that be a fair statement?
I was frustrated at the time, but I knew that holding onto those emotions was not good for me, so I took away the positives from the situation and got straight back to work in the gym, getting ready for this upcoming fight.
Jack Foote on Most Recent Bout
In your own thoughts, what went wrong in your most recent outing, and what measures have you taken this time round to ensure the same doesn’t happen at Goliath Fight Series 4?
I made a poor decision in my last fight, trying to complete the takedown rather when my neck was wrapped. This is the fight game, and these split-second decisions make a huge difference. I have been in this position multiple times in training and have drilled the proper defence.
Obviously, you’re at the early stages of your amateur career, but what goals have you set forward for yourself? Small and long-term goals?
I have big goals that I’d like to achieve in the sport, and I am aiming to make it to the top promotions in the world. Short term, the goal is to just keep testing myself at every opportunity possible and rack up the experience.
You’ll face Stephen McBride, who’s just picked up the first win of his amateur career. How do you feel about the fight and your chances of getting back into the win column?
I cannot wait for this fight. Stephen is a tough opponent that is much better than what his record shows, so I have not taken preparation to fight him lightly. That being said, I am extremely confident that I will be back in the win column in style after next Saturday and will continue the momentum throughout the rest of the year.
Expectations
I imagine you’re coming with a point to prove and eager to quickly dust off the cobwebs of your last fight. What can the Goliath crowd expect from you next weekend?
I always fight at a high pace, and I am always looking for the finish so the crowd will be in for a treat when it’s my time to fight. I see each fight as a new one, so I’m not bringing any negative emotions from the last fight in with me. I am just going in with the same mindset as always, finish the guy that has been put in front of me!
When you envision this matchup with Stephen, what type of fight plays out in your head? What do you believe you’ll get from Stephen on the night?
This is going to be a very fun fight for the crowd. Stephen marches forward with heavy shots, and I like to move, be evasive and counter at the perfect opportunity. I think I am the smarter and fitter fighter. I will set traps that he will fall for, which will lead to the beginning of the end for him.
Finally, fans love an official prediction. Leave us with your official prediction.
As the fight goes longer, I will only be speeding up as my opponent slows. I predict a KO/TKO finish in the 3rd, but I will not be surprised if I finish the fight earlier.
