After being faced with a last minute opponent change, Jack McCloughlin anticipates a “high level fight” from Malik Basahel, who he believes is a tougher fight than his original opponent.
There’s a lot on the line in the Barnsley Metrodome with the amateur flyweight title being up for grabs at Almighty Fighting Championship 30.
We had the chance to catch up with Jack McCloughlin ahead of his title fight! Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Jack McCloughlin
Saturday night, you’re set to make the walk in front of a loud and rowdy Barnsley Metrodome at Almighty FC 30. You are fresh off a victory two months ago. Was the plan to always have a quick turn-around?
Yeah, my plan was to get back in there as soon as possible after my last win and carry that momentum forward going into my next fight.
Touching on the topic of your most recent outing on Battle Arena becoming their title holder. Tell me what that moment meant to you in the early stages of your amateur career.
Winning the title in the battle arena at this stage of my amateur career shows that I’m on the right path and showcases the hard work I put in.
Previous to your last fight, you didn’t go to the judges’ scorecards in three fights. In a sense, was it good to bank more rounds last time out and have a longer duration to show your improved skill set?
It was good to get to be in there for the full three rounds last time out, as it allowed me to put on a dominant performance and get in more cage time which will only help me going forward.
Jack McCloughlin on Opponent Change
Saturday night, you will face Mohammed Haris. What do you know about your opponent, if anything, and how do you feel you match up against one another?
I have now been rematched against a better opponent in Malek Basal, and I know that he’s a good well, rounded fighter with a good record, and I think it matches a great fight.
Teammates and training partners are so important for preparation. Who are some of the people who have helped you the most in this camp?
Down at ASW Manchester, we have some very high-level athletes that I get to train with on a regular basis, but it’s been good to have some more high-level strikers coming in recently, which has made me level up my game.
With Mohammed having just one fight so far. Do you feel experience and cage time will play a factor on Saturday?
I don’t think cage time will play a factor in this fight as Im now fighting an opponent with similar experience to me, so it will come down to who’s the better athlete.
Finally, do you have any last words for your opponent before you step in there on Saturday night?
I’m sharp, ready and confident. This is gonna be a high-level fight with two of the best in the UK fighting for the Almighty title.
