Brit Jai Herbert secured a unanimous decision victory over Rolando Bedoya in an impressive display on the Sandhagen vs Nurmagomeadov card. This fight saw Herbert utilise his boxing to great effect against his opponent on the undercard. Jai’s kicks also brought him great success.
Herbert Vs Bedoya
Round 1 saw quick success from Jai who after landing some leg kicks drops Bedoya with a jab. Bedoya managed to get back to his feet but didn’t manage to do much. Herbert was able to land body shots and land a nice knee. Bedoya’s only success was briefly holding Herbert against the fence.
Round 2 saw some swelling start to appear around Herberts right eye but was still having success utilising his range. The bout was briefly stopped due to an accidental groin strike to Herbert. Bedoya also began having quite a bit of success landing some good shots of his own. The round ended with both men exchanging shots back and forth.
Round 3 Herbert opened with a sense of urgency opening with many jabs. The fight eventually went to the fence where Herbert utilised a judo throw which Rolando was able to get up from. Jai’s jab had success keeping Bedoya at bay and tiring him out. Bedoya despite his tiredness he kept trudging forward as Herbert landed on him. Ultimately Herbert was rightfully awarded the unanimous decision victory by the judges.
This fight allowed Jai Herbert to demonstrate that he can be a skilful operator particularly with the hands. Let’s not forget he was able to drop Ilia Topuria the current 145 champ giving him a scare. This victory also puts Herbert back in the win column. The Englishman was stoked with his win in the post fight interview and said his judo throw was inspired by the Paris Olympics.
