Jai Opetaia has shown the world his power once again with a brutal knockout of David Nyika.
The Cruiserweight Ring Magazine champion has put on a show with David Nyika in a massive back and 4 round showing.
Both fighters threw everything at each other before Jai Opetaia caught Nyika with a devastating shot knocking him down in the early parts of the 4th.
Jai Opetaia then smelt blood as he’d head hunted for a KO which he found just seconds later knocking Nyika down and out cold.
Jai Opetaia has now put out another statement to show he’s the benchmark of the Cruiserweight division and has called for the Gilberto Ramirez unification fight.
“Ramirez, I’m coming for those belts, we are coming for the belts man, were coming”
Opetaia also said he would be ready for the Ramirez fight within the next 3/4 months.
“Definitely man, we’re ready for these fights. I’ve been ready for a long time for these fights, We’ve been chasing unification fights. I’m coming for my belts”
Manager Michael Francis mentioned May 3rd as a potential date for unification.
“May 3rd that’s the date Turki Alalshikh did say to us, that’ll be a great date. That’s a fight that we definitely want, we love that fight”
Michael also mentioned Jai Opetaia’s selling power improving in Australia.
“12 months ago people were saying Jai doesn’t have selling power but look now, he sold this place out with two weeks to go”
Jai Opetaia To Heavyweight?
Eddie Hearn has even speculated a move up to Heavyweight to take on Olexandr Uysk for Jai Opetaia.
“It’s not just the belts at Cruiserweight but at Heavyweight too, Australia’s number one pound for pound fighter and now should enter the world pound for pound rankings. I think Jai is humble enough not to mention Uysk but I’m not, that’s my job Olexandr Uysk was the greatest Cruiserweight of all time. Jai is gonna pick up all the belts at Cruiserweight and then we are gonna push him into a fight with Usyk to try become undisputed at Heavyweight as well”
Turki Alalshikh has been watching all night from his home in Riyadh, so I’m sure the phone call will soon come for Ramirez to face Opetaia for unifications.
