Influencer boxer Jake Paul has announced his next boxing opponent for his upcoming fight on the 15th of December. The fight was announced through the twitter/X account of his personal fighting promotion Most Valuable Promotions.
The social media megastar will be competing against Andre August, a 35 year old professional boxer from Texas. August has a current professional record of 10-1-1, with five of his victories coming by way of knockout.
The fight will be an eight round cruiserweight contest, and will take place at the Caribe Royale Orlando, Florida. This will be Paul’s first bout since his unanimous decision victory over UFC star Nate Diaz in August.
His opponent also last fought in August, securing a unanimous decision victory over fellow American crusierweight Brandon Martin, who was unbeaten in seven fights before the contest. August is currently on a five fight win streak coming in to the fight.
The announcement has left many fans unimpressed with the unknown opponent, but ‘The Problem Child’ was quick to hit back at critics on his Twitter/X account with this recent tweet.
Future Plans for Jake Paul
Speaking to TMZ Sports Paul stated why he has chosen his next opponent, and how he believes it will help him on his quest to becoming a world champion in boxing.
“I’m looking at some pro boxers because I want to take this more traditional boxing route of moving up into the rankings, fighting professionals and taking the route to become world champion like a prospect on my calibre would be doing,” said Paul.
“So we’re looking at some pro boxers, they’re not going to be big names by any means because I want to be world champion. There’s risk for sure, but for me I want to challenge myself, continue to grow in this sport and get to the top of it from like a skill level. 100 per cent that’s my goal and to leave a legacy to show kids,” he added.
Despite him wanting to take the traditional boxing route in an attempt to legitimise his boxing career, he has still not ruled out the possibility of a rematch with long time rival Tommy Fury, and the highly anticipated bout against fellow influencer boxer KSI.
“The Tommy Fury rematch is still there, I want KSI and right now I’m looking at professional boxers. Building my record and fighting guys with the same level of experience as me, testing myself in there like a traditional boxing route. There are some ideas and names there on the horizon, we’re at the drawing board right now so just waiting to see what happens next,” stated the 26 year old.
