Joe Rogan Praises Jake Paul’s ‘Genius’
Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan has praised Jake Paul for the approach he is taking to his boxing career.
Paul, 27, recently took on and defeated heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, 58, in the boxing ring in an event streamed on Netflix. ‘El Gallo’ beat Tyson by unanimous decision over the course of eight rounds.
Despite the controversy created by the age gap between the two men, both walked away with staggering paydays. Tyson reportedly bagged $20 million for his night at the office, whilst the former YouTuber doubled this with a purse of $40 million.
Notably, the fight was sanctioned as a professional bout, as opposed to an exhibition. Meaning Paul improved his record to 11-1 as a professional boxer – to the dismay of many.
Rogan on the other hand has no issue with how he is going about business.
Rogan Discusses Paul
Speaking on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan discussed the rise of Paul and just how he is so successful.
He said: “I don’t have anything against Jake Paul. I like Jake Paul. I think what he’s doing is genius. I think what he’s doing is, like – I mean, he’s making insane amounts of money, he’s having a great time, he’s a legit boxer.
“He’s absolutely a legit boxer. If you do [hate him], you’re an idiot. But the reality is, Mike is 58 years old, and I was worried. I love that guy, and he was a hero of mine when I was a kid.”
Whether you do love or hate Paul, his presence in the combat-sports world is somewhat undeniable at this point.
The next goal for Paul will be to prove himself as a ‘legitimate’ professional boxer.
Quality of opponents has been a major criticism of Paul in recent years, however if everything goes to plan, he will face a current champion in his next fight.
If so, it will be his most challenging task to date – and potentially the one that truly derails any claims at legitimacy he may have.
