Jake Paul reacted to the controversy surrounding Gervonta Davis fight this weekend.
However, his opponent, Lamont Roach, believes a rematch is the only solution.
Davis voluntarily took a knee, which wasn’t ruled as a knockdown, sparking fury between fans.
Jake Paul Praises Gervonta Davis
Jake Paul has long been a critic of Gervonta Davis. The American has been pushing for the pair to clash in the ring. The YouTuber turned boxer praised Davis’s performance in a surprising review. Writing on his X account (formerly Twitter), the ‘Problem Child’ said, “Roach showed out, but I thought Tank edged it out, draw if you count the knee as a knockdown. He was more precise, bigger shots. But more than anything, I thought…easy fuckin work. Tell me different.”
Following this, Paul was mocked by fans citing the weight difference between the pair. Gervonta Davis is a lightweight, whilst Paul competes at cruiserweight. As well as this, Paul has since deleted the Tweet. As a result of his YouTube success, Jake Paul turned to boxing, fighting against the likes of Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and, most recently, Mike Tyson. Despite the critics claiming the American hasn’t fought anyone in their prime, Paul has managed to soar in the PPV buys.
Lamont Roach Demands Rematch
As a result of the controversy this weekend, Lamont Roach has demanded a rematch to take place. The fighter believes he did enough to beat ‘Tank’ over the twelve rounds. With the fight declared as a draw, fans took to social media to demand why Davis taking a knee wasn’t ruled as a knockdown.
Despite all this, Roach look composed as he landed consistently, through the fight. Having forced Davis on the back foot for certain rounds Roach was clearly upset that the bout has been adjusted a draw.
