Jake Paul has appeared amused upon hearing that his rival Tommy Fury has pulled out of his boxing return next month.
Tommy Fury was scheduled to face former UFC welterweight title contender Darren Till. This was going to be on the Misfits Boxing event in Manchester on January 18th.
However, Tommy Fury has recently announced he would no longer be fighting on that date due to concerns over comments made by Till in the lead-up to the fight.
Darren Till, more known for his MMA career than boxing, had jokingly claimed that if he was losing the fight, he would then throw a head kick to knock out his opponent. Despite the playful nature of the remark, Fury seemed concerned enough to withdraw from the fight.
Tommy Fury Pulls Out of January 18 Fight with Darren Till Over Concerns of MMA Tactics
In a controversial move, Tommy Fury has announced he will be seeking a new date and opponent, citing concerns that Darren Till might kick him during their fight. This decision came after a viral clip showed a fighter, losing a boxing match, opting to knock out his rival with a head kick.
Tommy Fury has shared his reasoning on Instagram Stories, saying;
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I am now not fighting Darren Till on January 18th, 2025.”
“The reason is simple—Darren has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t want to follow professional boxing rules, and if he’s losing, he will resort to kicking and other silly MMA tactics.”
“I am a professional boxer. I’ve been out of the ring for over a year, and I wanted this to be a real BOXING fight for the fans. I’ve wasted weeks in training camp.”
“We’re working hard to secure a new opponent and date. I promise to deliver a better opponent and a better fight for you all. Good news is coming soon.”
Jake Paul Reacts to Fury vs Till Cancellation with Cryptic ‘Hahahaha’ Post
The news of the fight’s cancellation quickly went viral on social media as both Fury and Darren Till shared updates about it. One notable observer was Jake Paul, who famously lost to Fury in February last year. The fight was incredibly close, with the result determined by split decisions after Jake Paul knocked down his rival late in the final round. Since then, Jake Paul claims he made a huge money offer for a rematch on Netflix, but ultimately chose to fight Mike Tyson instead.
In a post on X this morning, likely in response to the Fury fight news, Jake Paul wrote;
“Hahahaha.”
It is also worth noting that Jake Paul also has a longstanding rivalry with Misfits Boxing promoter KSI, who is behind the event.
Darren Till Slams Tommy Fury on Social Media After Fight Cancellation, Accuses Furys of Bullying Tactics
Since the fight’s cancellation, Darren Till has aggressively criticised Tommy Fury on social media. He has claimed victory in the mind games accusing the Fury of bullying tactics. He pointed out that Tommy’s brother, Tyson Fury, and their father, John Fury, are among the most notorious trash talkers in combat sports.
The former UFC welterweight title contender also revealed that his team had been aware of the cancellation since Sunday but had been trying to contact John Fury to salvage the fight. John Fury, who manages Tommy’s Fury career, reportedly ignored their calls. Speaking on X, accompanied by a video Darren Till said;
“I just found out that my team knew Tommy Fury was pulling out of the fight on Sunday and didn’t tell me because they were trying to reach John Fury,”
“But he’s not answering calls. Apparently, Tommy, you were never ready for that date, you crazy shithouse. Don’t ever show your face again!!!”
