After suffering his first KO loss of his career at UFC 300, Jamahal Hill is already back to the drawing board and aims for a return fight against Jiri Prochazka.
“I dared to be great against adversity and against a great challenge and came up short at the highest level in the world,” Hill said on X. “I answered the call twice on short-notice to fight for a championship that most will never fight for. On to the next @jiri_bjp least final make it happen.”
Hill followed up with a message to his fans and haters.
“To the people that support me I’m good don’t let the haters get to you I’m winning in life so having to eat a [loss] like a man is what it is!! They will be [quiet] when the next man drops,” Hill said on X.
Jamahal Hill Suffers First KO Loss
As aforementioned, Hill’s loss at UFC 300 was his first KO loss of his career. Hill faced Alex Pereira for the UFC light heavyweight championship, but it simply wasn’t his night. Early in the first round, after Pereira shrugged off a groin strike, Hill absorbed the trademarked ‘Poatan’ left hook that sent him crashing down to the canvas. Despite the trash talk before the fight, the two showed their respect for one another after the official decision had been announced. Hill put out a statement shortly after.
“Oh well, it’s the game we play. I got caught. For anybody that cares, I’m good, I’m well… We just build and come right back,” Hill said on Instagram.
A Matchup of Two Former Champions
A fight between Hill and Prochazka seems to make a lot of sense when looking at the current landscape of the UFC light heavyweight division. Despite his TKO victory of Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 300, it’s tough to tell if the UFC will give Prochazka an immediate rematch against the current champion Alex Pereira. Pereira finished Prochazka to win the vacant light heavyweight championship at UFC 295.
Hill even just a day after his loss to Pereira has doubled down on his attempt to book a fight with the Czech fan favorite. Hill posted a screenshot of the aforementioned tweet to Instagram with the caption:
“@jiriprochazka let’s give the people the fight they have wanted for years!!”
On paper this fight is sure to be a fantastic, high level matchup between two former champions of the division. And with Pereira potentially gunning for a fight at heavyweight, this fight becomes a larger possibility by the day.
In addition, the fight would share a number of great storylines. Both men have had to vacate their UFC title due to injury. Both men returned from injury to fight Alex Pereira to get their belt back and lost via KO/TKO.
Is this the fight to make at light heavyweight, let us know!
