Former Light-Heavyweight champion Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill has shown his displeasure towards former foe Alex Pereira two months after their fight.
After gaining the title in January 2023 it seemed tides were turning in the Light-Heavyweight division. Jamahal Hill beat the brakes off of UFC veteran Glover Texeira in his home country of Brazil to claim the title at UFC 283.
What appeared to be a great start to the year changed fast when Jamahal Hill tore his Achilles while playing basketball at UFC International Fight Week 2023. Potentially sidelined for the rest of his career Jamahal Hill would not return until April 2024 at UFC 300.
Jamahal Hill & Pereira the Backstory
In his time away with injury the title had bounced around several combatants before landing and staying with Alex “Poatan” Pereira. Pereira, a student of Texeira was not only fighting to defend his belt but also to avenge his head coach.
With Jamahal Hill sidelined for so long and coming up against a vicious knockout artist in Pereira it was no easy return fight for “Sweet Dreams”. Ultimately the Brazilian Pereira would knockout Jamahal Hill early into the first round at UFC 300.
After landing the finishing blow he stood above the dazed Hill and taunted him on the canvas. He went on to explain this taunt was in retaliation to Hill as he was unhappy with Hill’s change of tone from respectful at the beginning of fight week, to disrespectful at the press conference.
“He started respectfully during the week and then he did what he did during the press conference and the weigh-ins, so honestly, the least that I could do was just that to him,” Pereira said.
Despite being booked to fight at UFC 303 against late replacement Carlos Ulberg Jamahal is not done with Pereira. Looking beyond his upcoming bout and back at Alex Pereira with revenge hot on his mind.
Jamahal Hill Revives Beef With Light-Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira
In a long post on Instagram Jamahal reignited his frustrations at the current champion. He began by stating:
“Now I haven’t really spoken on this but I went to Brazil and dog walked your guy in one of the most one-sided ass whooping’s in championship history and after showed nothing but respect and paid homage.”
Referring to his title-winning performance at UFC 283 Hill believes Pereira should take a look out of his book when it comes to celebrations. Adding:
“I’ve never celebrated over an opponent I beat and even called out my fans for disrespecting Johnny Walker after I slept him. But because I showed competitive fire and was excited to be back after an injury that could have ended my career y’all think this (celebration) was funny or cool.”
Not only was he displeased with the celebrations but also the method of victory, questioning the legitimacy of his knockout.
“You really set up a punch you couldn’t get to without a weird confusing moment and did some weak s***, but it’s ok because you will fight me again and my eyes won’t leave you until you’re as stiff as Izzy left you in Miami.”
Fired up Hill can’t wait to get his hands on Pereira and reclaim his belt. Before then he has a tough test against talented striker Carlos Ulberg at UFC 303 whom he mustn’t overlook.
