James Greechan has left no-stone unturned ahead of Unity Fighting Championship’s upcoming show.
Since it’s birth, The Dolphin Centre has hosted some spectacular Unity FC shows featuring some of the best up-and-coming amateurs and professionals in the country. On February 17, the venue will entertain a stacked fight-card marking one of the first British regional shows of the year.
Before battle, we had the opportunity of speaking with James Greechan who faces Tommy Hunter. Hear his full thoughts below.
James Greechan Hungry for Victory Over Tommy Hunter
James, you return to the Octagon this year after debuting last year at Unity Fighting Championship. How have things been since we last spoke?
I’ve been up and down with injuries, had a little time to recover and feel like a new man.
Your debut didn’t go as planned, but what positives can you take away from the entire experience?
It showed me the holes in my game and also gave me a better understanding of the mindset leading up to the build-up.
Having got the first fight jitters out of the way and going through all the emotions that come with competing in a cage for the first time, how well-equipped do you feel you are now to deal with those emotions moving forward?
I’ve spent the last seven months just grinding, putting myself in shit positions, so if worst comes to worst, I’m ready to handle any situation.
Breaking Down Opponent’s Skill Set
Feb. 17 at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington, you’ll face Tommy Hunter, who’s coming off an epic clash on Rise and Conquer last year on his debut. Did you get the opportunity to watch that back? If so, what were your initial thoughts on the test you have in front of you?
I’ve had a watch of his fight, and he looked clean and has a good striker, so I know I need to be smart in the cage.
You’re coming back to Unity to right the wrong from your last outing against Rob Rosie. What do you feel in your own game you need to tighten up and change in order for the result to go your way this time around?
I just needed more grappling rounds and spending time in uncomfortable situations.
It will be just shy of seven months since we watched you last. That’s a lot of time to develop and get better if consistently hitting the gym. Where and how much improvements can we expect to see from James Greechan?
Improvements all over grappling, striking and wrestling. From now on, I’m going to show how well-rounded I am.
Finally, can you just highlight what it would mean to you to get that first win under your belt and kickstart your 2024 campaign with a victory?
It’s needed more than anything right now; too much hard work put in not to get the win. 2024, I’m coming for them all.
