James Greechan is coming to “fight heart out” this Saturday in his second MMA outing.
Goliath Fight Series fifth instalment goes down this Saturday, at the Dunfermline Glen Pavilion. Scotland’s rising stars will be making the walk in what promises to be an action-packed night.
Ahead of his next bout, we had the chance to talk with James Greechan. Check out what he had to say below.
James Greechan Interview
Saturday night in Fife, you make the walk for the second time in a short space of time. Where’s the mindset at after your debut a few months ago?
To be honest, I fell in love with it. The minute I was out of the cage, I was wanting straight back in it! But I knew that I had mental and physical changes to make this time round.
Your debut didn’t plan out how you would have hoped for. I don’t think a round-one loss was in the script. Upon reflection, how do you feel went wrong in there, and what corrections have you made this time around to ensure it doesn’t happen again?
I spent far too much of the fight camp on my striking and not ground game, so I just wasn’t fully prepared the way I should have been, so this time round, I’ve grappled just as much as I’ve practised my striking. So, no matter where the fight lands, I’m ready.
Although you suffered a loss, was there anything positive you took away from the first three minutes of your amateur MMA career?
All I took away was the positives. To be honest, it gave me more drive and determination. I’d rather work all the kinks out early in my amateur career, so then I can hopefully just keep progressing to the top.
Greechan Talks MMA Debut
Now you’ve made the walk, felt the build-up and nerves of fight week, and put your foot on the canvas and exchanged blows. Does that give you a sense of comfortability this time around, having got the first outing out the way?
Definitely, the small gloves and no-shin guards were a big factor the first time. Now I know how it feels, and with not being in the cage too long ago, my confidence is pretty high.
Saturday night, you lock horns with Judah Milne. What can those attending expect from this fight, and what do you expect Judah Milne to bring to the table?
From what I’ve heard, he’s a striker and explosive, so I’m expecting him to come out fast and hard, but I’ll be cool, calm and collected. I’m going to try to make it as clinical as possible.
Judah made his MMA debut last year. Did you manage to watch any tape from that fight? If so, what can you take away from his fight with Arran?
Nah, I’ve not watched his fight. With it being so long ago as well, I don’t think it would be the most help. He will have improved in that amount of time, but I train to win everywhere, so watching film isn’t that important to me.
What would it mean to you to get that first win under your belt on Saturday night and right the wrongs from the debut? If successful, how does one James Greechan celebrate?
It would be amazing, but regardless of the outcome, as long as I go in and fight my heart out, ill be happy, but either way, a few beers and some good scran.
