James Wamsley will have his first crack at amateur gold at Cage Warriors 142 when he takes on Roan Crocker. Roan, who is the current CWAW middleweight champion, will be looking to defend his title on Saturday in Ebbw Vale.
The card is set to feature both professional and amateur fights with this title bout set to headline the amateurs.
The Mindset
Wamsley goes in to this fight with a 4-1 record and two KO finishes. Heading into this fight, he has stated: “As always, I’m super excited to fight, televised or not. I intend to make it a good show and this gives me even more to energy to perform.
“Mindset is the same as ever. My goal every time I get in there is to put on a good show and prove myself as a fighter against whoever is opposite me, title fight or not.”
The Englishman brings a confidence and a showmanship attitude to every one of his fights.
Roan Crocker v James Wamsley
Wamsley and Crocker were set to meet at Brett Johns Fight Night in May of this year. However, the event was unable to go ahead.
Now, the two massive middleweights will meet at CW142. Speaking on his opponent, Wamsley stated: “I know he’s a tough opponent, arguably the toughest I could go up against right now and I live for that.
“I want to fight the best and beat the best and I know, come Saturday, we’ll both be ready to go.”
Roan currently holds an excellent amateur record of 10-2. As well as this, he recently won gold at the Four Nations Championships, solidifying himself as arguably the best amateur middleweight in the country.
Preparation
“In regard to preparation, we know Roan is an accomplished grappler, so lots of work in that regard. As well as, keeping the striking sharp alongside that.”
The Englishman trains at The Lions Den in Exeter alongside Kacper Zdunczyk, who will take on Alex Gill earlier on the card.
“I’m super happy I get to compete at such a good level on reputable shows. I feel very lucky to get these opportunities.
“And honestly, I think a big part of the reason I’ve been able to get these chances so soon, is the fact I’m surrounded by a great team and coach that know what I wanna do and will facilitate the growth as much as possible.”
Another one of his teammates is none other than his girlfriend, Miriam Grubb. “She’s always there for me no matter what.
“Holding pads, keeping me in check – I seriously couldn’t ask for better. She’s a beast herself so I got to stay disciplined to maintain pound for pound best fighter in our relationship!”
Cage Warriors 142
The event will take place on Saturday 13th at the Ebbw Vale Sports Centre and will be televised on UFC Fight Pass.
We’re set for an all-action middleweight scrap and it’s fair to say that James agrees. “I reckon it goes one of two ways: either, a quick finish or a bloody war for the distance. Either way, I’ll be ready, it’ll be worth watching, no doubts.”
The 23-year-old is in no rush to turn professional and is happy to build his amateur resume before making the jump.
