Anthony Pettis FC 8: Manchester Fight Night gets underway tonight, and the main card featured an exciting bout between two bantamweights, James Williams and Karvann Ahmadi.
Pettis and his team touch down on UK soil to put together a stellar card at the BEC Arena in Manchester, England. The event is set to feature some of the biggest rising stars, both from the professional and amateur ranks across the UK and Ireland.
To watch the event, fans can tune into the preliminary card via the promotions YouTube channel, followed by the main card, which will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass. The action got underway Friday, October 20th, at 5pm BST.
The undefeated prospect tops the event, Louis Lee Scott, who faces Edgar Pigmeu in a clash that will guarantee fireworks. The co-main features the return of James Williams, who faces Karvann Ahmadi in a 135lbs contest. On top of that, fans can look forward to a well-matched preliminary card with both pros and amateurs making the walk, eager to steal the show.
James Williams Dominates Karvann Ahmadi
James Williams came into the fight holding a record of (4-1). Originally scheduled to face Daniel Missin, it was unclear if Williams would remain on the card, but thanks to Karvann, Williams now had a worthy dance partner.
Williams hasn’t competed since December last year when he submitted Jamie Kelly in the third round at Full Contact Contender 31. Prior to that, he defeated Richard Kallos, Daniel Missin, and Reece Street. After multiple fight cancellations this year, Williams will be raring to go and make up for lost time.
Meanwhile, Finland native Karvann Ahmadi entered the fight with a winning record of (2-1). At the beginning of 2022, Karvann made his professional debut a successful outing when earning a unanimous decision over Karri Itkonen. He followed it up with another convincing victory over Arman Raisi and then was dealt with his first career loss against Safiullah Husseini.
In the opening round, both men were trying to find their distance while throwing multiple fakes. The action was halted due to Ahmadi being hit in the groin by an uppercut. Once the action continued, Williams got the fight to the mat and controlled the action, hunting for arm triangles in the process. Williams closed out the round on Ahmadi’s back, picking his shots.
Being down a round, Ahmadi came out aggressive, knowing he was down on the scorecards. Unfortunately for him, Williams was able to reverse and asset himself in a dominant position on the mat, just like the first. Ahmadi was able to survive a rear-naked-choke attempt from Williams. It seemed to be a matter of time before Williams found the finish, but Ahmadi was able to make it to the third round.
Into the third and Ahmadi’s backs against the fence from the off-set, Ahmadi shoots once again on Williams, which is reversed, and we are back into the same pattern on the mat as the previous two rounds. Williams picks up the pace ever so slightly, smelling a finish, but nothing comes from it. Ahmadi finds his way back to the feet and is immediately taken back to the canvas by Williams.
