Jamie Murray Ready to go at Goliath Fight Series 6
Jamie Murray’s path into the world of MMA began simply as a means of staying fit, but it quickly evolved into something much more profound:
“I started training just as a form of fitness but as anyone who does this knows, it gets its claws in and you don’t look back,” Murray recounts: “I was keen to fight on an Ultra as a way of testing myself early on, it’s a great way for beginners to dip their toes in and get a small taste of what it’s actually like.”
His journey with Ultra MMA provided Murray with not only a test of his skills but also a deeper understanding of the competitive side of the sport: “I think competing in anything is beneficial,” Murray reflects. “For me, it gave me my first proper focus in training and a feel of what the competitive side of the sport is like.”
Despite setbacks that delayed his debut, Murray remains unfazed: “Yes last year was frustrating with a number of fights falling through but ultimately it just meant more time in the gym preparing,” he explains. “I made sure I done everything correctly on my end, it was just a run of bad luck that seen my opponents get injured etc.”
Sights Set on Max Brodie
Now, with his sights set on Goliath Fight Series 5, Murray turns his attention to his upcoming opponent, Max Brodie:
“I’ve seen the fight, but to be honest I’m only concerning myself with what I can do,” Murray states. “He looks game, I’m sure he’s coming in confident but next Saturday I’ll be looking to spoil his night.”
As for the limited tape for his opponent to analyse, Murray takes a pragmatic approach. “It’s whatever he makes it, I’m sure he’s fully focused on himself,” he remarks.
Looking ahead to fight night, Murray offers a glimpse of what fans can expect: “I’m itching to go, I’m going out there to do my team proud – I’m ready for 3 rounds but if I see a finish I’ll be taking it!” he declares, displaying his readiness for the upcoming challenge.
