Jared Cannonier Delivers Monumental Knockout in UFC Vegas 102 Main Event
Jared Cannonier silences doubters by knocking out Gregory Rodrigues. In the UFC Vegas 102 Main Event that left the crowd speechless. Cannonier, 18-8, snaps his two-fight skid emphatically after coming off of losses to Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov. The Killa Gorilla started the fight with Rodrigues, looking to protect his ranking. Rodrigues pushed the page early on Cannonier, walking him down, feinting his way into range. Landing powerful strikes to the body, followed by combinations to the head. Rodrigues knocked Cannonier down twice during the first round, putting him in control. Robocop closed in for the finish at the end of round one. As he rained big strikes on the Killa Gorilla, the round ended saved by the bell. Visibly hurt, Cannonier walked to his corner to make the adjustments for round 2.
Cannonier Fends off Rodrigues to Hold on to HIs # 7 Ranking
Round two begins with Rodrigues being more conservative with his strikes and energy. Cannonier comes out of his corner, a man on a mission. With intent, we have not seen from Cannonier since knocking out Derek Brunson. The Killa Gorilla let his cardio become a weapon, as well as getting behind his jab. The omentum begins to shift as Cannonier’s leg kicks begin to find their home. Rodrigues retreats, hands low, movement heavily labored they both have their moment in this round as it closes. In round 3, things go downhill for Rodrigues in a hurry. During a clinch situation, Robocop takes a nasty elbow from Cannonier. The Strike hurts Rodrigues, leading to him being on the ground. With round three coming to a close,e the horn sounds saving Rodrigues. Cannonier, wondering why everyone isn’t as happy as he is In the corner, he finds out there will be a round 4.
The Killa Gorilla Closes the Show in Round 4
In 21 seconds of round number 4, Cannonier devastatingly finished Rodrigues. At forty years of age, Cannonier turned back the clock and showed the killer instinct that let him dance with Israel Adesanya. Once again, this shows there are levels to this game. With the middleweight division on notice, Cannonier is looking for a match-up to get him back in the title race. A match that might come in the form of a rematch with former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.
