At his media day interview, Jared Cannonier said that he believes he can be the first person to finish Marvin Vettori.
Cannonier will take on Vettori at UFC Vegas 75 this Saturday in a fantastic middleweight matchup.
The two middleweights will clash in the main event and bid to take a big step closer to the title.
Jared Cannonier Filled With Confidence
In his media day interview, the 39-year-old Cannonier seemed to have only one thing on his mind – finishing the fight.
The former heavyweight spoke highly of Vettori though and said that he holds no animosity towards his opponent.
“I don’t have to be angry with him to go in there and do what I have to do to get that finish,” said Cannonier.
He continued: “I’ll just batter his face in until his corner throws in the towel or the doctor says you can’t take any more. Something. I just want to finish.”
When asked why he thinks he will be the first fighter to stop Vettori, Cannonier responded confidently.
“Well I punch pretty hard, and I’ve gotten pretty good at making my fists connect to guys chins,” he said.
“Considering the fact that he hasn’t been finished, I’d love to the the first guy to break that cherry.”
Cannonier’s Title Hopes
Cannonier got a shot at gold in July 2022 against current champion Israel Adesanya.
He lost a decision, but bounced back later in the year with a win versus Sean Strickland.
During the Jared Cannonier interview, he expressed his desire to get back into title contention:
“That’s the plan man, go in there and perform to the best of my ability and show Dana, Mick, Hunter, Sean, whoever else needs to see I’m ready for this second shot at the title.”
“I’m ready to take the title from Israel,” added Cannonier.
Prepared For Anything
Cannonier made it clear that he is ready for the grappling as well as the striking of Vettori.
He said: “If he does want to grapple, it’ll be to his detriment.”
“It hasn’t been easy to hold me down and it’s going to be damn near impossible to get me down now.”
A focused Cannonier discussed with the media his preparation for the upcoming fight and the atmosphere in his camp.
“I feel like I’ve had the best camp since moving down to Phoenix. The energy that we bring in there, everyday we work, the programming itself, you know what I mean? It’s going to create champions,” said Cannonier.
‘Tha Killa Gorilla’ insisted that he has grown in all aspects of mixed martial arts and is excited to “show up and show out”.
He then delivered a message to the MMA world: “Y’all better watch out out there.”
Jared Cannonier vs Marvin Vettori takes place this Saturday 17th June at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
