Interview with Jasim Beg
Your fight for the Goliath Fight Series bantamweight title is this weekend. It looks like you are coming into this in great shape. How has the preparation been going?
“Yeah, preparation has been great. Definitely coming in the best shape of my life at the moment. I’m stronger than ever while maintaining my cardio. I’m deadlifting and squatting double bodyweight for reps and running 3 1/2 minute kilometres, no problem. Along with all the sparring and rolling pad work, I could not be better prepared.”
Your last couple of fights haven’t gone your way, but losses are an opportunity to learn and grow. What are some of the lessons you can take from those bouts to help you get the win this weekend?
“I have always been a tough competitor, and the last couple of fights show that. The last couple of fights showed me I’m more than durable, so knowing that keeps me confident wherever the fight goes. I’ve tweaked a couple of things in training, which I will showcase on Sunday.”
Jasim Beg Discusses Grappling Improvements
Earlier this year, you received your BJJ purple belt – congratulations on that. Do you feel like your grappling has taken to another level since your last fight?
“Thank you. Yeah, my grappling has improved a lot this year. I’m finding a lot more finishes and am able to manipulate my opponent into putting themselves in bad positions. This will play a major factor this Sunday.”
Do you know much about your opponent Regg Hingston? How do you see the fight playing out?
“I’ve seen Reggie fight a few times, but there’s not much to take away from a couple of fights as an amateur. I see me dominating the grappling exchanges and getting the finish.”
I know you had hoped to fight 3 or 4 times in 2022. Will we see you back inside the cage before the year is up?
“I wanted to fight at On Top December 10th. I just heard it’s cancelled. I’m definitely up for fighting for another promotion before the year’s up. It just depends on what’s available.”
This will be your 11th fight as an amateur. Do you plan to turn pro, and if so, do you have any milestones you want to achieve before doing so?
“I plan to turn professional in the near future. I’m just not in a rush. I like racking up the experience. There’s no particular milestone I need to achieve as an amateur. I just want to be super comfortable in the cage before I take the leap to the professional ranks.”
What post-fight meal are you looking forward to having?
“Costco Pizza”
