Javid Basharat combines all the arts as he earns a hard fought victory over Mateus Mendonça at UFC Strickland Vs Imavov.
Mateus Mendonça starts by applying pressure on Javid Basharat. Javid avoids well and defends a takedown by threatening a submission which backs the Brazilian off. Back in space Basharat begins to find his range and starts finding a comfortable rhythm landing some nice jabs. His flow is soon disrupted and he’s back to defending a takedown. Back in the open both men trade shots before Javid takes the fight to the mat.
In the second Mateus doesn’t waste time getting the fight to the mat, but Basharat bounces back up immediately. Javid’s takedown defence is solid as he stays upright once again before securing another takedown of his own. Working to strike he’s able to land some big elbows. Mendonça attempts to take a leg but Basharat defends and gets back to work. A knee bar for Mateus buys him some respite as the round ends.
Mendonça comes out in the third looking to make amends for the second. Throwing caution to the wind, and looking for something to turn the tide. Javid is just too slick and sees everything coming from miles away. Javid grinds the third out on top to secure the unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
A victory that has a little bit of everything, it wasn’t the flashiest for Javid but it should prove important as he moves forward in his career.
