Jay Butler is a UK Grappling legend who has been on many of the UK’s favourite grappling shows, including Pantheon, Battle Grapple, Grapplefest, Polaris, ACE Submission, Fusion Fighting Championship and many more!
We caught up with him today as we wanted to find out more about his brand new gym and the future for Jay and Co.
Hi Jay, hope you are well. Tell us a little about yourself, for those that don’t know?
Hi, my name’s Jay butler from Jay Butler BJJ. I started BJJ in 2008 after my wife gave me a UFC DVD. I then started to fight MMA in 2012, ending up on BAMMA. After I retired from pro-MMA, I began to compete in more No-Gi sub-only only events and went on to win on Polaris and Grapplefest.
Tell us all about your new gym?
I recently opened my new gym in Yateley. I’ve got a big comp team, so I wanted somewhere we could concentrate on competing while helping others to learn Jiujitsu.
What made you want the challenge of setting up your own place?
I’ve been doing Jiujitsu for nearly 15 years, and it seemed like the natural progression. Plus, I wanted to provide a better future for my family. It’s a big challenge, but I like that.
What are your plans for the future, for the club and yourself?
To grow and to continue to compete at the highest level.
Gi or Nogi?
I always train and teach in the Gi. I have multiple British titles in the Gi, but my heart prefers No-Gi.
Who’s your favourite grappler ever?
It will always be Roger Gracie for me, not because he gave me my black belt hahaha, but because he had everything and competed and won everything Gi and No-Gi
Best match you’ve had?
My favourite match has to be my win over Marco Cahna. It was huge for me as Marco is a true legend in the sport and a world-class athlete.

Is there Anyone you want to shout out?
Big shout out to my sponsor Tatami Fight Wear. Obviously, my family for their support and my boys Mostdope, c man, Bass ManGee Kay and G Money
Finally, how would we find your new gym?
