Interview With Jimmy Quinn
Two weeks out from fight night, I see you’ve not been as active on social media. Is that a testament to how laser-focused you are ahead of fight night?
To me, social media means nothing, but whether you’re working hard or not in this day and age, the only proof of that hard work to people is if you’re posting what you’re doing. I haven’t been focused on posting what I’m doing for my training as much, but I’m definitely working harder, and that’s probably why.
Touching on your recent outing with Harry Myers handed you your first loss. Talk to me about what went wrong on the night. Was it just one of those nights at the office where you were caught?
The fight with Harry Myers was a lack of concentration at the last minute. I come up short. My lack of preparation for the fight was not ideal from my side of things, and my training slowed down. My diet slacked off. Missing weight on the weigh-in day all played a part in that loss, but he won fair and square. But 9/10, I know I would whoop his ass, and I think he knows that.
Jimmy Quinn Reflects on First Loss
Taking your first loss makes or breaks people. Some look at it in a positive light, some sulk and let it really affect their confidence. How did you handle it?
That loss has made me more confident. I needed it. I had that loss for a reason. It made me get into the gym and put in the work. Focus and be strict on my Diet and its made me a better athlete and fighter in my body and my mind. It was all blessing in disguise.
What lessons have you taken away from the Harry Myers that you hope to implement on October 8th with Kashaan Khan?
I don’t think I took any lessons from Harry Myers because I feel like I was my own downfall in that fight. I took a lesson from myself, though and noted it now. Never slack off again and laser focus throughout.
Kashaan is riding a good run of form as of late. What do you anticipate he brings to the table on fight night? Are there any areas you’ve identified where he looks strong and perhaps weak areas?
To be real, I couldn’t give a f**k what he brings because I bring the heat, and he will definitely feel that on the night. When the lights are on, it’s my time, and he will feel how different it is in there with me. He knows that deep down as well.
Improvements
Despite only fighting a few months ago, can we expect to see anything new in the game of Jimmy Quinn, or will it just be a new and improved version of Jimmy Quinn?
There will be a lot that’s new from me. A new fresh, clear mindset. Focused and sharp. I can guarantee a s**t hot performance.
October 8th, you get your hand raised and defeat Kashaan Khan for gold. How do you celebrate?
When I take the win in this fight and defeat him, I have some flips that will be coming out of the locker. I just got a make my mind up on what one yet.
