Joanne Wood, formerly Calderwood. Is the latest fighter to be taken out of the roster pool. According to UFC Roster Watch on Twitter. UFC Roster watch is a computer-generated system that will track all the comings and goings on the roster. Tweeting every time someone enters or exits the company.
The latest “release” is Scottish Women’s Flyweight Jojo Wood. The reason behind the releases can be for a multitude of reasons. One, their contact has been void. Two, they have fought out their contract and are waiting to sign a new one. Three have by request a break or have failed a drug test. temporarilly removing them from a contract.
Was Joanne Wood Let Go?
So many have speculated that the 35-year-old 15-8 was released. This however appears not to be the case. Joanne herself took to her Instagram a few days ago to say that she has asked for some time away and the UFC has granted her such. Looking to take a year off, it looks as if the roster removal is just a temporary thing and hopefully she’ll be back as soon as she’s ready.
Not on the best run of her career, she is currently on a three-fight skid. Still one of the best in the weight class. Of her last five losses four have been to title challengers and the other, to a future contender.
Always able to compete with the very best, it would come as a huge surprise if this was the end of her time with the UFC. Having been competing in the octagon since 2014 she is one of the more experienced females.
Her coach and husband has replied to the UFC roster watch tweet and quelled the release talk saying:
So it looks as if this is just a decision from Joanne and her team. Looking to take time to recuperate and come back stronger this seems like a great idea for her heath and her career.
What’s next for Joanne Wood when she returns?
