Joe Pyfer builds on the hype as he finishes Gerald Meerschaert in round one after a left hook at UFC 287.
Before the Fight
Gerald Meerschaert
A staple of the UFC’s Middleweight division. Gerald Meerschaert has made a name as a tough competitor who usually filters through those not worthy of competing at the highest level. This position has seen him face plenty of tough opponents but has managed to accrue a 35-15 record.
Coming into some fine career form of late, Meerschart has rebuilt himself to go 4-1 in his last five. All four of his wins have come via submission and Gerald sits as the best submission artist in UFC middleweight history. He has also finished all ten UFC wins.
Joseph Pyfer
The next up-and-coming star to test their skills against the might of Meerschaert is Joseph Pyfer. After a statement performance in Dana White’s Contender Series. That got the boss shouting “Be like Joe Pyfer”.
Doing the boss proud, Pyfer would go on to win his debut in stunning fashion. Taking just under four minutes to deliver a brutal finish over Alan Amedovski. 4-1 in his last five, Pyfer’s overall record sits at 10-2.
The Fight
A heavy leg kick opens for Pyfer. Meerschaert is content to hang on the outside as Joe looks to land bombs. Moving his head just in time several times it all comes undone quickly.
Coming forward Pyfer looks to land the killer blow. He does just that with a beautiful left hook. Sending Meerschaert to the ground, the grappler shells up as Pyfer rains down brutal shots.
How high is the ceiling for Joe Pyfer after his UFC 287 victory?
