UFC 303 will be headlined by Jiří Procházka and Alex Pereira. The light-heavyweight title rematch promises a stylistic clash on the feet.
Pereira’s championship level kickboxing will be challenged by the unorthodox style of Procházka.
However, a different striker has caught the eye of Joe Rogan ahead of this Saturday.
‘Venom’s 303 Stint
After an impressive UFC debut against Kevin Holland, Page was able to finally prove that his dynamic striking ability was able to work against high-level competition.
This weekend he looks to further his run with a win over Irish star, Ian Machado Garry.
Garry comes in undefeated at 14:0, with seven of those wins being inside the UFC octagon. Momentum is on his undoubtedly on his side, but all for the taking in the eyes of ‘MVP’.
Rogan’s Perspective
The stand-up prowess of Michael ‘Venom’ Page is something that has not gone unnoticed by the long time commentator.
Speaking on the most recent episode of his podcast, JRE Fight Companion, Rogan explained that Page may be a puzzle that Garry will not be able to solve.
“I think he’s sensational, but he’s been hit before, and he’s gotten rocked and dropped. Michael ‘Venom’ Page is a different thing inside the octagon. I think he’s going to have a really hard time finding that guy.”
He continued to heap praise upon the London native, saying that there is no one that does what Page does.
“The difference with Michael ‘Venom’ Page is (‘MVP’) is an elite point fighter. His style of hitting and not getting hit and being able to close distance really fast, f*cking nobody is like that.”
Touching upon his last fight, Rogan then explained that even a “very good’ striker like Holland could barely touch ‘MVP’.
“I just think that he’s the most difficult puzzle on the feet I’ve ever seen. Kevin Holland couldn’t do a f***** thing to him. Kevin Holland is a good striker, a very good striker.”
“He’s a complete fighter, but he’s a very good striker. He didn’t even come close to hitting him. Like, that dude was just not there.”
Beating Garry this weekend would be momentous for ‘MVP’. A stellar performance could, arguably, put him a fight or two away from the welterweight title.
