Joe Rogan Reaction to Dricus du Plessis Victory
UFC Commentator Joe Rogan was not on duty this weekend for UFC 305 however, that didn’t stop him from watching. He has even gone viral for his reaction to the champion Dricus Du Plessis submitting the challenger Israel Adesanya.
UFC 305 occurred yesterday (Saturday 17th August 2024) from Perth Australia. In the main event, Dricus Du Plessis was going to be defending his title against former champion Israel Adesanya. Adesanya was looking to reclaim his title after losing it to Sean Strickland back in September 2023.
This main event had fireworks written all over it and things even got heated at the press conference between the two fighters. This rivalry started even before Adesanya lost his title and the two fighters were finally going to settle it inside the octagon. In the evening it would be Dricus Du Plessis who would come off on top. This was due to a rear naked choke which happened in the 4th round. Dricus was already leading on 2 of the judge’s scorecards heading into the 4th round however, made sure not to leave any questions by getting the stoppage.
Joe Rogan who is a commentator for the UFC has since gone viral for his reaction to the submission. Watch his reaction down below;
What Is Next?
Now the question on everyone’s minds is who is next for the current champion Dricus Du Plessis. Before the event took place the UFC CEO Dana White announced if Dricus was able to get the victory he would try and get a UFC event in South Africa. Could we see Dricus Du Plessis be able to try and defend his title back home? However, who would he be facing?
Sean Strickland is currently the number one contender for the title and was the champion before Dricus Du Plessis could defeat him. This was due to a split decision back in January. Since that defeat, Sean Strickland has also fought and defeated Paulo Costa by split decision.
However, another direction the UFC could go is giving former champion and current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira a shot at becoming a double champion. Alex Pereira was able to clinch the middleweight title back in November 2022 when he was also able to defeat Israel Adesanya. Pereira was able to get the standing TKO in the 5th round before losing due to a counter right in the 2nd round in the rematch in April 2023.
If this fight is going to happen it will have to wait for a bit due to Alex Pereira already being scheduled to fight Khaili Roundtree. Pereira will be looking to make the 3rd title defence on October 5th and a win against Rountree might just convince Dana White to give him a shot at becoming a two-division champion.
